Bio
Born into a musical family and growing up in a relaxed seaside village on NSW’s south coast, Kieran Colton naturally picked up the guitar at age 13. Just two years later he won the inaugural Gulgong guitar competition performing his original compositions. In 2011 Kieran graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Contemporary) from the Australian Institute of Music. During this time he studied under some of Australia’s most highly acclaimed Jazz musicians including ARIA award winning guitarist James Muller and pianist Greg Coffin. Upon graduating he then travelled to India and studied Indian classical music with world-renowned Grammy nominated Hindustani Slide Guitarist, Debashish Bhattacharya.
Kieran has performed at major festivals throughout Australia including Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Australian World Music Expo, Woodford Folk Festival, National Folk Festival and many others. 2016 saw Kieran feature on a guitar compilation album of folk songs alongside some of Australia’s top acoustic guitarist such as Jeff Lang, Michael Fix and Daniel Champagne. Sharing his deep passion and wealth of knowledge of the guitar, Kieran has over 15 years experience in helping students unlock their full potential and realizing the joy of playing music.
